Well,
it's 2008 at last! Now that Christmas is over, we hope everyone is up for
a bumper year of art, culture and reflection.
This
year Liverpool hosts Holocaust Memorial
Day, the international day of
remembrance of the victims of Holocaust and other genocides, on January
27th
As
part of the remembrance programme, FACT are showing the 1997 film Bent by
Martin Sherman.
Martin
Sherman adapted his award winning play of the same name for the big screen
version which stars Sir Ian McKellen, Clive Owen, Jude Law and Mick Jagger.
Bent
tells the story of two homosexual lovers who were betrayed and find
themselves in a Nazi concentration camp where we discover that being gay or
lesbian was a virtual death sentence.
"With
a strong cast and a passionate theatricality, Bent is simply not to be
missed if you've never seen it before."
Martin Sherman, who also wrote Mrs Henderson Presents, will be at FACT to
introduce the screening of the film as part of the Outsiders Film Festival to mark Holocaust Memorial
Day followed by a Q&A.
The
film has been rated [18]. Film starts at 8:00pm sharp and seats are
unreserved. Turn up early if you want to sit with friends.
Luan
and Vinny from culturepool will be in the FACT bar on the 1st floor from 7:30pm.
