After
the September flood and cancellation of the Grieg
100: Piano Concerto, we are still to have culturepool's first foray into the wonderful
world of classical music. At least the
Phil's latest celebrity signing Vasily Petrenko will be on hand to help us
out.
We’re
not regular classical goers but we’ve
been intrigued by all the excitement that’s
surrounded the Philharmonic since the appointment of Vasily Petrenko.
Vasily is the youngest person and first Russian to be appointed Principal
Conductor at the Phil in its 165 year history and is widely
recognised as one of the exceptional musicians of his generation, and he’s
also been a real hit with Liverpool.
"He
had the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in his hand, the audience loved him.
Prolonged applause, standing ovations, all that. Not the usual Liverpool
reaction." Liverpool
Daily Post
Which
is why we’re so excited that Vasily's agreed to chat to culturepool
after the February 21st
performance (Fairest
Isle: The Planets) and what's more, you'll get a 50% discount on a £25
ticket if you quote 'culturepool'! – see below left for further details on how to
book.
And
what about the composer Gustav Holst? Holst was a 20th century English composer
(1874-1934) and 'The Planets' is his most famous work. The Planets is also
the most performed composition by an English composer. The suite itself
has seven movements, each named after the following planets: Mars, Venus,
Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
If
you've ever been lucky enough to have experienced Liverpool's world class
Philharmonic Orchestra, you will know they are the city's real musical
stars.
So
why not join us and give it a go...
